Our History

Calvary Baptist was started in 1972 from a tent revival in Auburn GA.

Pastor Donald Wade led the first congregation. After meeting first in a member's garage, the congregation then moved to a small house before the existing building was built in 1974.

The late Robert Johnson donated much of his time and money to help in the building of Calvary's sanctuary.

Also, Bro Herman and Ann Mote were two of the founding members who helped in the planting and building of the church and they are both still faithful members today 50 + years later in 2022.

In 1977 Pastor Larry Youngblood was called to be the Pastor of Calvary. He served faithfully until January of 2016. Under his leadership the church served the Lord for the next 39 years and saw many great things done for the glory of God.

In 2016 Pastor Brian Swafford was called as Pastor of Calvary Baptist. Pastor Brian was a graduate of the Tabernacle Bible College and served faithfully for God's glory in his three previous ministries before Pastoring at Calvary.

After battling a short illness, Pastor Brian went home to be the Lord in February 2021.

In 2022 Bro Doug Swafford was called to be our Pastor. After serving under the ministries of Pastor Larry Youngblood and Pastor Brian Swafford, Pastor Doug Swafford felt the call of the Lord to serve at Calvary and he became Pastor. Pastor Swafford continues to serve the Lord at Calvary and desires to see God do great things for His glory.

Calvary Baptist Church has a long history of serving the communities of Auburn and Carl. We are trusting God to bless His work as we serve Him.

Our Future

Calvary Baptist has been blessed in the past but we are also looking for the Lord to do great things in the future. We want to be a congregation that continues to serve the Lord until he returns to take us home to be with Him!
